So far we have worked our way from South Wales to Folkestone then Calais over to Rouen then down to Saumur, then down passed Bordeaux to the resort of St jeans du Luz. John and Sue who we met up with at Bisscarrose recommended this town and site.
Here we stayed on a site just outside the town on Erromardie at Camping Le Bord de mer this site is just across the road from the beach with its Atlantic rollers. Quite a few surfers riding the waves when we arrived. This is Basque country and the welcome from the site owners was very nice Address 71 Chemin d’Erromardie, 64500 Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France http://www.camping-le-bord-de-mer.fr/
I liked this beach because it’s not really like all the other beaches on the Basque coast. The most immediate thing you notice is that wonderful smell of the iodine, there’s seaweed and it’s quite wild. There are a couple of lovely bars along the beach just on the road where you can get a meal and cocktail there is also a coastal path cycle way to St Jean or the other way to Biarritz.
We walked the coastal path to St Jeans and it was very interesting lots of very affluent properties a very small church and ww2 gun emplacements St jeans is a nice looking bay We walked down the hill to the bay and town wandering around ended up by the Harbour where there is a plaque to the resistance fighters who lost their lives in defense of France
